Bluetooth Position Sensor – Top Devices and Best Practices

Bluetooth signals are sent out by beacons, which are small radio transmitters. They come in a variety of sizes, colors, and shapes, making them ideal for a wide range of applications and allowing for unobtrusive and easy integration into any setting. Some of the benefits of using beacons include

BLE-enabled devices can detect the signals transmitted by beacons at regular intervals. A BLE device collects location data from the beacons and sends it to the IPS, which uses it to determine the device’s location. This can be used to help a variety of location-aware apps and even to activate specific actions.

The internal batteries of most beacons are long-lasting that can last for years, as it can be charged by a USB link. BLE technology is usually less expensive to manufacture than other RF technologies, resulting in low-cost, lightweight, low-maintenance hardware that can be customized for deployments that meet the specific requirements.  For improved performance, some beacons move beyond BLE and include extra technologies such as temperature sensors or accelerometers.

Bluetooth positioning – How it works?

Using BLE-enabled beacons or sensors, Bluetooth position sensor identifies and traces transmitting Bluetooth devices, such as tracking tags or smartphones. Location data collected by sensors or sent to mobile devices by beacons is consumed by various location tracking apps and converted into insights that power a variety of location-aware use cases.

BLE positioning with sensors makes use of sensors enabled with BLE that are fixed in an indoor room. Based on the obtained signal strength of the transmitting system, these sensors passively detect and locate signals from personal badges, BLE smartphones, beacons, wearable, asset tracking tags, and other Bluetooth devices.

BLE beacons send out BLE signals on a regular basis. Surrounding devices, such as smartphones and BLE-enabled sensors, can detect these signals. The beacon continuously broadcast signals that contains a unique identifier is deployed in fixed positions throughout an indoor space. Depending on the beacon communication protocol, the identifying code is sent out on a regular basis, along with other data. When in range of the beacon, wireless system or a smartphone with a pre-configured service or out-and-out app can receive and interpret the beacon’s signal in a user-centric approach or transmit this information to a server in a server-centric approach.
