GPS TRACKING “The revolution“
The word GPS Stands for Global Positioning System. It is a series of Satellites positioned around the Earth for sending one-way signals back to the earth. Its prime function is to provide information about prominent details like the exact position, navigation routes and time related details of the said device. The consumers can purchase GPS Tracking devices and install/deploy them to their vehicles in order to determine their GPS Coordinates or in other words their exact location along with updated time logs. The working of the GPS tracker can be elaborated as a unit which can be used anywhere on the Earth be it land, water or air. At any given time, this system has a minimum of 24 active GPS satellites orbiting the Earth every 12 hours and each satellite transmits radio signals that are useful in tracing the location, speed, direction and time of travel of the users having GPS receivers.
GPS Satellites:
The accuracy of the GPS technology is related to the strength of the signals traveling from the GPS satellites to the GPS receiver. For higher accuracy, there should be no obstacles between the sky and the receiver. The time taken for a signal to travel from a GPS satellite to a GPS receiver is just 60-80 milliseconds.
Role of GPS Trackers:
The basic consumers for such devices are companies involved in product installation, delivery, packaging and collection. Some of the industries that are actively employing this technology are Courier companies, For-Hire Cabs, Private Company Vehicles, biomass and raw material collecting vehicles to name a few. Apart from the company and corporate usage there are several ideas to make the utmost usage of this wonder device in our personal lives by tracking vehicle, asset, equipment and valuables as well. GPS Trackers are also designed to send information via internet as well as an alert to the recipient in the form of text messages on cellular phones. So, now we really carry the world in our pockets.
GPS trackers are finding extensive use for investigative purposes by law enforcements, fraud or insurance investigators, private investigators and corporate and private individuals to secure information necessary by monitoring movement of vehicles, assets and other objects of interest.
Types of GPS tracking devices:
There are two types of GPS Tracking System devices available in market one being “Historical “and the other one is “real time” GPS Tracking device. They are differentiable on the basis of their working. Historical GPS Tracking device have an inbuilt recorder that records the location of the device at certain intervals of time. Once it’s placed in the vehicle, it’s positioned there for a while and then its removed, followed is the analysis of data recorded such as how far it has traveled and what were its different locations etc. These devices are less in cost and come without monthly rental or fee.
On the other hand we talk about the “Real Time“ GPS tracking units, they are capable of giving instant information as they have a inbuilt transmitter which sends the GPS Location/co-ordinates back to the main central computer. The user can login to the computer and check the details in real-time about the location, navigation and time of the vehicle. Such unit is more expensive.
The GPS devices have introduced another facet in the tracking technique and technology allowing more flexible and real time information.
